Most people don’t think about insuring your boat, Camping trailer, dirt bike, ATV, RTV, Jet ski (or during the winter your snow mobile), golf carts, cargo trailers and even horse trailers. Yes, when you are pulling a trailer with your vehicle the liability does extend to the trailer, but only when you are pulling the trailer. You are not however covered if a tree falls on it, or if you back into something and you want the damage to your trailer covered.
When pondering about your travel trailer/ boat/ RV/ etc.- there are unique coverages to think about. Personal belongings like you have in your home, or expensive fishing equipment in your boat can be a substantial exposure. With the cost of “stuff” being pricey these days, this coverage is easy to obtain and “toy” insurance is pretty reasonable. What if you’re camping and someone gets hurt, your dog bites someone, your prop cuts someone, you run into somebody/something on your jet ski/ bike- the list goes on. Liability insurance is critical today in our litigious society and is not covered on your auto insurance.
