I am the sum of life-long decisions made…

Believe it or not, that’s my quote.  It comes from a conversation I had with a client several years ago.  He and his friend were at a local gas station when I pulled up and we started chatting. We ended up discussing some pretty heavy stuff that day- which was a little strange being that we were standing in the middle of a parking lot.  He was having some pretty serious health problems at the time that turned out to be unfortunately, more than just serious. He mentioned that he was happy with his life and told me that he was basically where he had put himself.  Throughout his life, he had made little decisions that basically landed him where he was.  Sure, he could have made more sacrifices…worked harder…been kinder…  But there he was and he was ok with being there.  I read a talk this month and it mentioned that life turns on small hinges…

First I thought- what a blessing to be happy with where you are, to feel at peace with your life. I feel that so many of us wish that we would have done more.  My brother-in-law says the saddest day for most will be in the end when one will say “if I only would have”.  Then I thought, am I happy where I’m at- more importantly, is my family- my wife, happy with where we are at (a much tougher question).

January is a great time to ponder decisions that where made last year.  More importantly ponder decisions that were not made- or not acted on last year. Pondering is an important gift given to us that most of us are to busy to take the time to do.   Our Father in Heaven wants the most for us like any parent would want for their child…common sense right?  What kind of loving parent would want they’re child not to be happy.  Pondering is a key to happiness- more importantly- peace.

Let’s figure out our motivators and make this year the year that “we’re happy with where we’re at”.
